What to do if you have lost your VAT registration certificate.
In order to register for Making Tax Digital (MTD) or to authorise your accountant to file your VAT returns for you you will need to know your Effective Date of Registration for VAT. Whilst this can be found on your VAT certificate, what do you do if you have lost it?
Don’t panic! There are two ways of getting it. The first is through your online Government Gateway Account. Simply log onto your account, go into the VAT section and you can print your registration certificate.
If you cannot login to your online account then you can apply online and HMRC will send you the details. Just follow this link to the HMRC online form.
