The 31 January 2026 Self Assessment Deadline Is Approaching

As we move through January, the Self Assessment deadline of 31 January 2026 is coming into sharp focus.

At North Devon Accounts, we speak to many individuals and business owners at this stage who are aware of the deadline but unsure how to file their returns. If your return is still outstanding support is still available.

What the 31 January deadline means for you

The 31 January deadline covers several important obligations. Your Self Assessment tax return for the 2024 to 2025 tax year must be submitted online by this date. Any tax owed for that year is also due by the same deadline.

Missing the deadline results in an automatic £100 penalty from HMRC, even if there is no tax to pay. Interest may also be charged on unpaid tax balances. Filing accurately and on time remains essential.

A common reason returns are delayed

A recurring theme we see at this point in January is hesitation rather than lack of information. Many people have their paperwork ready but feel uncertain about figures, allowable expenses, or whether all income has been declared correctly. That pause often leads to last-minute pressure.

Our role as accountants is to remove that uncertainty. A return does not need to feel overwhelming when you have professional guidance to confirm what needs to be included and how to submit it correctly.

Support from North Devon Accounts

North Devon Accounts supports clients across Braunton, Barnstaple, and throughout the UK. We assist with Self Assessment returns for the self-employed, landlords, company directors, contractors, and individuals with untaxed income.

If you are approaching the deadline without having filed, we can step in to help prepare and submit your online return. We focus on accuracy, clear communication, and ensuring all relevant allowances are claimed where applicable.

Even at this stage, reaching out can make a meaningful difference to how smoothly the process is completed.

Acting now matters

The final weeks before the deadline are often the busiest, which is why early contact is important. The sooner we can review your information, the more effectively we can support you before the 31 January cut-off.

If your Self Assessment return for the 2024 to 2025 tax year is still outstanding, now is the time to take action.
